From Paddock to Plane: GrainCorp outlines pathway for Australia’s sustainable aviation fuel future
Australia has a clear opportunity to build a domestic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry, leveraging its strong agricultural base, regional supply chains and abundant renewable raw materials or ‘feedstocks’. Yet today, much of this value is captured offshore. Key feedstocks such as canola, used cooking oil and tallow are exported for processing, and refined fuels are imported back into Australia.
GrainCorp, as a member of the Australian Government’s Jet Zero Council, has developed From Paddock to Plane: Feedstock White Paper to outline a practical pathway to unlock Australia’s sustainable aviation fuel feedstock potential. The White Paper highlights the economic, regional and strategic benefits of building from this foundation, creating new demand for farmers, attracting investment into regional communities and supporting high-skilled jobs across the value chain.
Expanding domestic refining capability would strengthen Australia’s sovereign liquid fuel security and reduce reliance on imports. With the right policy settings, Australia can capture more value from its feedstock advantage and secure long-term national benefits.
